Last Winter, we were forced to bring down two large ash trees from our backyard. In a strange moment of wisdom, I asked the arborists to leave several pieces of the trunks. I should have asked them to leave all of them since I found out that they can be used to grow blue oyster mushrooms. I ordered these for $30 from a Montreal company. You drill holes, hammer in the inoculated wood dowels and seal with wax. Free mushrooms for the next 4-5 years? We’ll see how it goes. #gardening
