@Mrfunkedude@mastodon.social I hear this a lot and I generally believe it's true. That said, I was raised in a cult where I was voluntold to give thousands of hours of “service” that was mostly to benefit the organization and to keep us busy so we wouldn't question. To refuse was to be shunned and shamed. To this day, I've been largely unable to even think about volunteerism without a surge of anxiety and repulsion. Maybe I'll get around it someday. To the sincere volunteers, you have my respect.
