I am not a Republican, but if I were Kevin McCarthy, I'd go scorched earth on the 20 blocking my path to the speakership by cutting a deal with the D's: * No debt ceiling fights (don't bring down the financial system, sheesh) * Give D's some committee assignments but not the majority of them (bipartisanship) * ALL 20 R's OFF all committees, lock them out of fundraising, etc. * Rescind all agreements with them (5 seat threshold, etc). He has to pick either the 20 obstructors or the other 200.
