@armadsen@mastodon.social US has been good. It helps that I'm fluent in English and people can't tell I'm a foreigner. High income and blue state also help a lot. Wife is US citizen with great credit score and driving history so it gave me a good starting point and affordable auto insurance.

    @armadsen@mastodon.social In evaluating US vs Japan 2 things are very important: knowing what you need in life (I have a kid so suburbia means cheaper, more space, less crowded, clean, safe and no stress) and having the right expectations (gonna need to drive everywhere, no 24/7 convenience stores, "boring", etc.). I do miss Tokyo because it's the exact opposite but we wouldn't be able to enjoy it because... kid. We can visit whenever though, and if we change our mind we can easily move there as well.
