This week on "Final Seasons of TV Shows Which Have Been Disproportionately Criticized Despite Being Quite Good Seasons, Actually", may I present Stranger Things. I could have done with slightly less faffing about in the epilogue, but I thought this was actually a good ending to the show.
I think that people do this thing when they get invested in a story where they headcanon their own preferred ending before the show is over, and then whenever literally any one thing does not match how they had imagined to themselves that the show would end, the show is Bad and Wrong and Worthless, etcetera. The same thing happened with Lost, tbh.
Sure, the ending was confusing, but so was the rest of the show (almost certainly by design, in my estimation). I really do not buy that everyone was able to follow the threads in the first five seasons but then 2010 hit and they suddenly lost all of their ability to engage with Byzantium In Media. People just didn't like that Thing Happen Differently Than I Wanted :(
