@jaapio@phpc.social If you say that, you are implicitly saying that you find theft, plagiarism and license violations totally acceptable.
To me, from an ethical point of view, that's a non-starter.
As for the problem of low-quality PRs (independently of whether or not AI was involved): the most precious commodity in open source is maintainer time. Anyone who is deliberately wasting maintainer time with low quality PRs deserves to get a warning and be banned the second time.

@jrf_nl@phpc.social I don’t fully agree that all LLM-generated code necessarily violates licenses, or that it is inherently low quality. In my view, contributors remain responsible for what they submit. As maintainers we try to review PRs for correctness, design, and long-term maintainability, but it’s not really feasible to verify the provenance of every line of code. For me, the main challenge is low-quality or insufficiently reviewed PRs that consume maintainer time, regardless of how they were created.
