It can be very frustrating when something is not working as expected. But I'm pretty sure, that you stumbled over a nowadays really really rare Element E2EE bug. The same can happen to Signal and all other Software out there too. Actually, Signal was extremely buggy regarding notifications for a few years (sic!) and that was extremely frustrating to me too. Just because the @matrix@mastodon.matrix.org Foundation has weird standards for advertising Matrix Clients doesn't mean, that Matrix itself is of poor quality. For example our (connect2x) Tammy is ignored to be "featured" despite being one of the fastest and stable clients for normal Matrix users. Our software has very high quality standards and it has to be, because it is widely used in a bunch of TI-Messenger implementations: https://connect2x.de/de-de/products/ti-messenger So please, feel free to talk about "poor quality", but don't address a complete protocol and huge ecosystem.
