Simpson says council have had to make cuts on and on for 20 years and need to be properly resourced. Calls for joined up routes. I am unclear how any of this corresponds to Reform's politics.

Scotland doesn't have any local authorities, of course; the provincial authorities are so large that the council ward I vote in is bigger than five independent European countries put together. But if we did have local authorities, they should have sufficient fund raising powers that they had real discretionary spending. Otherwise, local democracy is meaningless. Funding local government by block grants from the centre isn't OK.
