@jcsteh@aus.social I also was sceptical. I wonder if they saw an open platform as a potential edge for a competitor entering the market, and wanted to get there first.

@J_D_X@dragonscave.space Could have something to do with the forthcoming Google product? Google has a better history as far as developer integration goes, so it seems plausible that their forthcoming product might be at least somewhat open to third party integrations. Not that I'm saying Google are angels - they'll probably happily invade your privacy while they do it - but you take the best of what you can get these days... 🤷♂️
