@clock@net.miaumuh.ch there's also the part connections in your Mastodon settings, there you can filter them. Also, Mastodon sure does support tabs (I've also always a lot of tabs open), but every tab does create (and maintain!) a new connection. So if you're on a small Mastodon server and your server admin chose a stricter rate limit than mastodon.social does, that can lead to the effect you experienced.
