@peterhorvath@mastodon.de I'd agree with that, this is a theatre often played out by & for the political class with little real interest (other than for narrative's sake) in the lives of those far from their enclaves

    @ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us Okay but I think, it is very obvious, who has the real power in such a two-party system. A narrow circle of guys behind - or above - both parties are automatically build up, and their internal arbitration will be the real decision making. These guys can not be expelled by election, because elections choose only between their left or right side. Now compare this to Iran. On the paper, there is an internal "Commitee of the Guards", a closed, narrow group of shia clerics. Their power is that they can forbid nomination to the election to anyone, for anything. Thus, while Iran is a presidential republic on the paper, in the practice, you can only choose between various flavors of shia islamists. NOW WHAT IS THE ESSENTIAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE UK AND IRAN?
