@siege@masto.hackers.town the LondonAZ used to be in everyone's pocket. There's an entire generation now that has no idea what that is. "all hail blue dot"

@siege@masto.hackers.town in theory this would be alright, because its a way for the brain to keep a smaller amount of info ('bookmarks') to get to the same abilities... ...if said ability wasn't so incredibly error prone and able to find the worst kind of self-amplification groove in people's brains like, a contacts list is imo much better than having to remember every single phone number, but then a contacts list is only that, a contacts list whats happening here is that people start to bend their *entire* bookmarks connection towards AI; "why go to your contacts app when you can just ask AI? especially when you've made your entire muscle memory able to open claude within 0.5 seconds on your phone, and already be typing your question before you're aware why invest in having multiple apps that can only do a *bit* of functionality when you have an app that can do *all* the functionality?" and thats the real danger, imo

@Callanbellwether@mastodon.social @siege@masto.hackers.town yeah which is what I'm saying; there's a pattern of extensibility, that genuinely helps, but then AI takes it and basically poisons the whole act, and deskills people instead of enabling them

@siege@masto.hackers.town it’s an apt comparison because I don’t think my life is any less rich for not knowing 25 phone numbers off the top of my head, but my life would be far less rich and beautiful and whole if I stop thinking about things for myself or creating things for myself. Big difference
