The big thing that the strike resulted in, in my view, is that WP never adopted the behavioral advertising model. There's next to no tracking on WP for the purposes of selling user attention. That cuts way down on useless infrastructure. It also shows how a nonprofit can be such a major part of internet infrastructure -- a great counterpoint to the dominant way of funding sites.
