Talking about "nature vs nurture" with my wife reminded of a story with my father. My father was a PoS but he was in many ways a "woke PoS". He was once sitting at a cafe outside with some other guy, an acquaintance of him. The other guy was a "hacı", meaning he had been to Mecca for pilgrimage and had thus earned his title as "Hacı" ("Pious One"). From the time you do that pilgrimage you aren't supposed to sin or create any new debt, whether material or immaterial. Anyway, my father and this guy are sitting there drinking their tea, this guy with the typical Turkish "hacı"-cap on his head and the prayer rosary in his hand, when a young woman in short shorts and tank top passes on the other side of the street. This guy looks at that young woman, turns to my father and says, shaking his head "Azalet bu, azalet. Tüh!!!" – "such a disgrace, such a sinner!" - and spits on the street. My father turns to him full of rage and says: "The disgrace is you, you fucking bigot! The woman is just being herself and enjoying what she wears, you fucking bigot feel you must judge her, you didn't even have to look, you 'it oğlu'. And you call yourself a hacı, a Pious One! Shame on you! Tüh!!", says, stands up, spits in front of the guy on the street and walks away. Yeah, he was a PoS, but a woke one. The thing is my father was in many ways the product of his time, but in ways he could he was way ahead of his time. If he wasn't born in 1930 but rather a Gen-X or Millenial I am sure he would have been at the forefront of all the "wokeism" that the fucking conservatives are fighting against.
