For real though, regardless of what's actually happened in this case which might just be a fuck up, the ludicrous predictions about this stuff will have been taken super seriously inside the companies selling it and they will likely have had marketing plans cued up that they've now had to revise, because no one is buying it anymore
Now they need to pivot to a more realistic view of the utility, but that's hard to do gracefully

Headsup that I'm not a fan of derogatory or paranoid generalisations about product managers and the like. I point out that it's a product manager here because it speaks to what's going on with engineering oversight regarding commits to a codebase.
