I have nothing against #ai . It can be a useful tool in everyday life, no more so than a hammer or a cooking pot, for example. What I do object to are the pathetic attempts to replace people with AI. In my case, an entire industry is being permanently harmed by this, as junior developers barely get a chance to learn and grow their skills anymore. No one here in Germany seems to be thinking about the gaping hole in the job market 20 years from now, especially when suddenly we’ll lack not only the expertise for the job itself, but also the ability to train future generations for it. We’re already lacking qualified trainers in every corner. I think if we clung a little less to intellectual property, we could approach the topic of AI more constructively. So that it fills gaps instead of creating them. But that won’t happen as long as the large-scale theft of thousands of users’ data by Microsoft, Google, Meta, and so on isn’t stopped once and for all. Until then we need to be extremely cautious.
