So when you read sections like this you assume he is lying? Because I read that and see dark humor and a person who has struggled with experience and choices in his life.

when i read that, i see some parallel version of myself if were a i was a mercenary. just like planter, i too am a liberal who prefers to think of himself as a leftist, but i have the benefit of being too queer to have ever been indoctrinated the way he clearly has. my leftist education comes from two places: written retrospectives of the only successful leftist movements of the past two centuries, and the legally mandated confessions of the neoliberal oligarchy that shaped us. i’m still a neophyte to leftism and clearly so most of the time – but even at my level, i can see where planter or abughazaleh (or even mamdani) fall woefully short of understanding leftism.
