Millions of depoliticised people with no interest in how things work but full of vague grievances are a statistical phenomenon with its own inertia, almost a physical disaster like a tsunami or a pyroclastic flow. Once they get going they are definitely going to wreck everything, and talking a tiny fraction of them back from the edge isn't going to do anything. This is why boring good governance matters. The lesser of two evils always falls to the louder of two evils. Try being actually good.
