@dan_kn@mastodon.social @gwcoffey@mastodon.social I disagree with the idea that machines aren't dehumanizing, people are. This comes from the fallacy that technology is value-neutral -- it has no inherent politics, it only matters how people use it. This is the same argument as "Guns don't kill people, people kill people." The creators of the gun probably didn't intend to enable mass murder, but the technology does that all on its own. Likewise, I think all types of technology push society in some direction, all on their own. AI dehumanizes, regardless of what its creators intended or how its users try to use it. In other words, you can't wield the One Ring for good, you have to cast it into the fires of Mount Doom.
