@petealexharris@mastodon.scot @LillyHerself@mastodon.social I object to all religions that are sexist. If a religion won't allow women to become clergy, or insists that women stay at the back of the room during prayers, the religion is harmful. I would LOVE to live in a country that was free of both Catholics and Muslims! The only exceptions are the Muslims who belong to the rare, tiny congregations that have men and women mixed together, and allow women to lead prayers. It's sadly telling that those congregations aren't welcome in mosques, and instead have to meet in private homes or in rooms rented from progressive Christian groups. Edited to add: I often wonder whether Kamala Harris would now be president, if not for Joe Biden having been a Catholic. He belonged to a religion that taught him that women weren't capable of leading even a small church. That must have influenced his thinking about whether a woman would be capable of leading the United States. If not for that sexist influence on his thinking, perhaps he would have spent his four years as president grooming Kamala to take over for him, instead of sidelining her. That could have positioned her to defeat Trump in the 2024 election.

@petealexharris@mastodon.scot Those attitudes are deeply embedded in their doctrine and rituals. And I've seen these patterns in catholics in more than one country.
