๐Ÿข๐Ÿข TURTLE TUESDAY ๐Ÿข๐Ÿข ๐ŸŒ Tiny Raine Island is the largest nesting site for 90% of endangered Green Sea Turtles. Unfortunately, rising sea levels are creating slopes that cause hatchlings to flip over and die. Climate change's heat is causing too many females to be born. ๐Ÿ’ช But an intrepid group of egg relocation specialists, armed with high tech and knowledge from Indigenous groups nearby, is saving the day. They have relocated eggs at scale to a safer island. ๐ŸŒŠ This year, more than 9,100 northern Great Barrier Reef green sea turtle hatchlings have begun their journey to the sea. An amazing 82% of the relocated eggs hatched and made it to the water. โœ… This is another example of a conservation effort that is successful because it uses Indigenous knowledge to be ecological and sustainable. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-06-01/green-sea-turtle-babies-hatch-/106739118 #TurtleTuesday #SeaTurtles #Conservation #GreenSeaTurtles #Environment #ClimateChange #WildlifeConservation #Wildlife #Biodiversity
