In "The State: The Fate of a Concept" Ashis Nandy argues that the concept of modern nation-state emerged in a particular historical context, become hegemonic across the world but the model fails to work in much of the world. He rightfully critiques the many problems with the model such as it's extractive and coercive nature. He points to the reemegence in recent times of alternate models, which so far have not captured the imagination of any societies.
