Europe was pushing stellarator research, when US and Asia gave up focusing mostly on tokamaks. #Wendelstein7X - stellarator working in Greifswald - delivered such spectacular results that it started renaissance of stellarator research in the world. There are three major new projects following W7X - one in US, and two in Germany. This is a fourth one. I am so happy about that.

@jakmarcin@mstdn.science WoW thanks! 5.5 million Euros does not seem like much. Tried finding some Spanish news article and can't find what it covers. 10 -20 scientists or engineers over 5 years? https://www.eleconomista.es/energia/noticias/13263752/03/25/nace-el-proyecto-rodas-destinado-a-impulsar-y-desarrollar-el-sector-de-la-fusion-nuclear-en-espana.html In December it was 2.5 million over 4 years. Was this different pot of money? https://www.eleconomista.es/energia/noticias/13248516/03/25/el-gobierno-apuesta-por-la-energia-nuclear-apoya-la-investigacion-de-la-fusion-con-el-proyecto-rodas.html Looking at last week government news: 500 million to 2030 as part of Deeptech's 8,000 Million? https://www.ciencia.gob.es/Noticias/2026/abril/gobierno-impulsa-Nueva-Estrategia-Nacional-Deep-Tech.html So this money is for death valley phase. Later investors. 👍
