Couple of things I didn't mention in my posts about xiangqi and shogi (the chess-like games in China and Japan respectively): I also checked out janggi, the Korean variant of xiangqi. I don't know if there's a digital version for it so I haven't tested it against a CPU but at a glance it's a mixed bag. Wikipedia has details, but I think I would prefer the changes to the Cannon, Soldier and Palace rules, except for the added rules overhead for the Palace movement.
