I suspect the overwhelming majority of the complaints I see about dm-integrity's speed are from people who never bothered to read & understand all the options about journal commit, flushing & such. Depending on the durability constraints and usage patterns one chooses, there's a lot to play with & tune there. I expect they were mostly hitting a journal-commit-time too low for their particular use-case.
