No, they are horizontal, but I use string diagrams. For instance, this is vertical composition of 2-cells:

@BartoszMilewski@mathstodon.xyz That still doesn't seem right though. In the diagram, P,Q,R, and S are the profunctors. and they look vertical to me, whether drawn as a string diagram or it's Poincaré dual 🤔
