I see that in domestic political terms, yes.
But in foreign policy terms, the Iran war is a massive, avoidable footgun. And that may well be far more consequential.

Europe is beginning to believe that its alliance with the US is worthless. Withdrawal of US troops? After all, the US would do nothing in the event of a conflict with Russia.
