No need to go back that far - just find timetables from before the 1990 & 1981 massacres and you'll be shocked at where you could go by train. And not just east of Sarnia!

@mcourcel@allovertheplace.ca The US-based Rail Passengers Association uses a tool to create timetables for VIA Rail and Amtrak, both of whom have given up publishing them ("use the app!" "use the web!"). https://www.railpassengers.org/resources/amtrak-timetables/#Via VIA's seems a little out of date, though. Maybe it hasn't changed much.
