A bit of common heritage with our English cousins: The most despised king in English history was John. And the reason for that, once you ignore the contemporary smoke and mirrors, is that he lost every fight he was ever involved in.
There is no faster way to lose status as a leader than losing a war.

@jmax@mastodon.social That's certainly true of "leaders" who pin their reputation on "winning," which describes English royalty in it's earlier history and the current Trump.
