@albertojavier@universeodon.com @ahltorp@mastodon.nu @rrustema020@mastodon.nl The automakers themselves actually selling high-performance trims of their pick-ups; the Syclone and 454SS from GM, the Ram SRT-10 from Dodge, and the F-150 Lightning from Ford, for a while in the '90s and '00s, certainly didn't help matters. If anything, it can be argued that the Syclone, 454SS, Ram SRT-10, and the first and second-gen Lightning collectively sparked the current sport truck trend decades ago, and we're still riding on a trend that dates back to 1990. (although the Syclone outsprinting the latest Ferrari at the time it launched definitely helped sell that sport truck given it was a 'Car & Driver' cover story back then) And the 'SUVs as a family hauler' trend traces its roots back to '91 when the first-generation Explorer launched, while prior to that point, minivans were the hot ticket family hauler, we've been putting up with SUVs as family haulers for 35 years keeping that in mind.
