Reminds me about something I learned in an introductory social anthology class in uni, about the two basic/core forms of religion: asceticism and ecstasy. And how for a religion to survive, it either needs constant little ascetic drips to keep people from forgetting or the occasional ecstatic blowout that will keep people remembering for a long time. Norwegian nationalism, perhaps a bit surprisingly in such a Protestant corner of the world, is quite ecstatic.

Tbf. the media and center-left to far-right politicians are also quite diligent in proving the constant little ascetic drips reminding everyone who belongs in the (ethno) nation and who are just, often generational, guests*. *unwanted intruders and a problem to be managed by the white autochtones.
