@sue@glasgow.social The internet is a big place, and we’re all allowed to try our own things for our own reasons. Because I choose to write software, and give it away, to enable people to do things with, doesn’t make me a part of some kind of problem, and I’m sorry you see me that way. I can’t do everything for everyone, but I can do this. There are plenty of companies who make money and they’ll happily take you. Turning every free software project into a capitalist, venture-funded, profit-first endeavor isn’t the solution that you think it is.

@gabek@social.gabekangas.com What are you on about? She didn't say that people that sharing their FOSS project are bad, she was on about how people expect FOSS project, indie-web space to not get money from their work and also rarely get donation. That doesn't mean they want to be an capitalist, they want to make money to do this for a living cause we live in society which were dependent on it to even have food and housing. No need to mansplain to her, she's a coder ffs @sue@glasgow.social

@gabek@social.gabekangas.com The problem isn't "choosing to write software and give it away". It's "being oblivious of the luck/privilege/inequality/asymmetry which put you in a position do that while others are constrained to paid work only", especially when combined with "bragging about how doing things for free is better". Are you bragging about how unpaid work is better? If yes, have a think about the implications of that. If not - then (aiui) you're not being described in the original post.
