@paulrosen@hachyderm.io You might want to look at OpenWRT, an open source router package. They have a list of supported hardware, an active support bulletin board and you don't need to have Amazon (or any other external org) anywhere near your traffic. There's some joke here about being as easy as ABC to setup but I've found it better than the proprietary systems. And that would let you choose second hand systems and PC based hardware too. https://openwrt.org/

    @artnacrea@mastodon.ie Thanks! Sorry for the delay. I finally got a free moment to start research after a crazy week. It looks like it probably works but I need to make sure that it is compatible with my ISP, too. For whatever reason my old router wasn't and I never got a clear answer why not. For $90 I guess it could be worth a shot, but I do have a fear that it will also be multiple hours of my time, too.
