@CommonMugwort@social.coop That’s wonderful research! When I used to fly my hang glider in thermals I used a very similar seeking and optimization algorithm to find and “core” thermals. Go straight until I find lift. Once in lift fly straight. As soon as lift lessens turn until lift increases and straighten out. Done well this ends up producing an irregular series of rough circles which stay close to the center of a thermal column of warmer air as it rises.
