@robryk@social.wuatek.is It's mostly two things.
1: To avoid the table to act as a resonant chamber with the wood surface and the small space below it.
2: High frequencies don't like massive things, and milling at 13krpm is gonna generate noise in said range, adding "as much weight" as possible within realistic times, will always help.
Note I said "mass damper" and not "tuned mass damper", the second one would be calculated for specific frequencies, as you suggest.

@Nixie@nixie.name Ah, I see, so the idea is not to do any energy dissipation, but to shift resonant frequencies down, by increasing mass while keeping spring parameters (`k`s) unchanged?
