Anything approaching decent rate (3.3+%) required a money market account with balance in excess of US$ 99_000 at my current bank -- too rich for me. The statistics just give me the idea of the on going expenses. Big purchases -- a flight+hotel; 6-month car insurance payment; etc -- add bumps along the way. Also, "just because". Have also added a "high" marker line for the expected amount that I can easily can live with.
