They're just so... unimaginative. There are so many things other than coal and mining people could invest in.

If they weren't so fucking stupid they'd be asking the government to train them on installing solar and wind. Then they'd have future proof high paying jobs without dying for it in their 40's. But this is straight up natural selection at its finest.
