@ingram@mastodon.social @dpiponi@mathstodon.xyz I've been reading T.J.Dekker's seminal floating point paper from 1971, and that's before we had IEEE754 and standard rules on rounding. https://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/~pbarfuss/dekker1971.pdf Back in the wild west days of mainframe/workstation floating point, things used to be *really* hairy. There's like a 1985 event horizon before which papers get very handwavy.
