Maybe due to memory blockage, but if I understand right general anaesthesia isn't particularly known to bring about the more commonly reported experiences of dying or of near death experiences - the stereotype of one's life flashing before one's eyes, etc.
Regardless, philosophically and practically it's absolutely sensible to ask what separates the internal aspects of different states of unconsciousness and near/death from others.
