All of this, except for "It costs nothing to open a window". It often costs heat - or cool, depending on local climate.
I actually think that's often the reason that people _don't_ open windows, when they don't. Lots of people already struggle to afford their heating bills, &/or (esp with limited mobility) find it difficult to stay warm enough. Opening a window in those circumstances is another aspect of how rich people have advantages in protecting themselves.
