Thanks, in fact I've just got hold of a pair of Calmer today - let's see if they work. So far I can tell that they don't dampen a lot but maybe that's enough for what I need. I'm not too hopeful though.

@dinobelbo@mastodon.online this is true. How I've described it for folks is they smooth of the rough edges of bad acoustics. If you're in a damagingly loud environment, they'll be of limited use. Anything more effective than those, and lucky me has to contend with tinnitus. My own portable bad noise.
