@monster@tech.lgbt @CarbonCarrot@mastodon.social depends on how much python/js logic is used... Each api call is (nearly) as fast as it would be from a non-scripting language, yeah. But the script part... Well is a script part and not compiled code About the css part; i have tested several more complex and some more simple gtk 4 themes. I could _see_ on the librem 5 for example that complex gtk4 themes perform less as good as simple. Gtk2 apps are much more performant as their gtk3/4 successors. Indeed it doesn't really matter (in terms of usability) on fast x86 cpus. But on the long run; more complex structures means more cpu usage. I'm not a active qt or gtk coder (done some qt/c++ stuff in the past) but if i see that the style change from active window to background one is visible on gtk4 and not on qt apps,...

@scops@social.tchncs.de @CarbonCarrot@mastodon.social But the script part... Even that isn't that slow these days, modern applications are more often bottle-necked by IO and network calls, so if your apps are slow, it's probably the lack of async/threading. more complex structures means more cpu usage Absolutely, I just wanted to say that this isn't inherent to CSS, any modular styling framework will struggle more with complexity :)
