In the US, you can get away with up to 26k lbs GVWR on a normal license while 26,001 lbs GVWR and heavier needs a CDL. In truck classification terms, class-6 (19,501-26k lbs GVWR) is the heaviest class you can get away with on a normal license in the US, while class-7 (26,001-33k lbs GVWR) and class-8 (33,001+ lbs GVWR) need a CDL.
