That a populace is able to sustain these levels is an index on its cultural integrity, the integrity of the system that binds the individual to the society. Only "unthinking" people can sustain such contradictions reliably. An unthinking populace is the demagogue's ideal soil. This populace will become the stuff from which empires build their substance. The populace, in such cases, is agreeing to not participate in decision making. It is the innocence of the child in need of a parent. Those who escape this mentality must deal with those who do not escape it. #genocide #militarism
