@helenclayton@mas.to I often say that my Mom died of nothing, at 67. Clinic after clinic told her she had nothing. But she was experiencing abdominal pain. For an entire year. And aged so much from all that untreated pain. So her doctor requested a new chest xray as well as a copy of the last chest xray. She was a smoker. A dark area on the lungs had been missed by the reviewer (likely due personal issues & to the fact the person killed themselves soon after). They did more scans. She had lung cancer that had metastasized along her spine, attacking her nerves. Interestingly one of my colleague at work lived an almost identical experience almost simultaneously. My Mom’s death made me realize indeed that doctors prejudge their patients and will ignore or dismiss complaints. Not everyone deserves to be heard by this discriminatory system. Women are particularly vulnerable and treated quite differently than men in the healthcare system. With heart disease this can result in misdiagnosis even death. Advocating for oneself is exhausting and often needed at a time when the persons has the least ability to fight. It is misogyny.
