@thenexusofprivacy@infosec.exchange @FediPact@cyberpunk.lol They have not yet figured out how to exploit Threads into the thin wedge that controls - and monetizes - the fedi. So, they're going to not work too hard on keeping Threads going, but they are still looking for that inroad. Maintain paranoia proximity alerts at all times.

  • Totally agree. It's not paranoia -- they really are fascists who have contributed to multiple genocides. And if it's useful to them, or see fedi as a threat, they'll be back! One way of looking at it from Meta's perspective is that they've gotten enough mileage from pretending to care about the fediverse -- muliple rounds of good press for tiny incremental steps (oooh a share-to-fediverse button, how exciting!), sycophantic fedi influencers saying positive things about them, stuff like that -- and feel like they have the regulatory situation enough under control both here and in Europe that they can affod to be honest that no, they don't really care about it right now. Priorities! But all the other potential upsides to them are still there. If regulatory pressure in Europe heats up and they think it's useful to play up the interoperability, or if fedi (or Bluesky and rest of the ATmosphere) grows enough that they can make money at it, they'll start paying more attention to it. Who knows, they might even pretend to care again. It'll be interesting to see how many people fall for it this time. @Edelruth@mastodon.online @FediPact@cyberpunk.lol
