@konstantinosd@mastodon.gamedev.place Dracula's Guest was part of the deleted opening sections of the novel at one point. According to deleted text in the surviving manuscript, the "Countess Dolingen" of the short story was actually the blonde Bride Jonathan Harker meets in Dracula's castle later!

@konstantinosd@mastodon.gamedev.place Two chapters were cut from the start of the text, chronicling the earlier stages of Jonathan's journey in Munich & Vienna. The text is lost, but we know the synopsis from some of Stoker's notes and Dracula's Guest. Notably, in Munich, along with seeing a performance of Wagner's The Flying Dutchman, Jonathan Harker visited the city morgue, which was then a public attraction - and saw the living face of Dracula, pretending to be dead and observing his future guest from a bier!
