In Montreal you are able to contest such a thing, and then they have to show their numbers in housing court and a judge can decide what is reasonable. Do you have any recourse there or they just raise it and you pay it?

@mart0@438punk.house we definitely don't, that sounds like a dream. I'm writing him a response now but I'm struggling to be like "no, lol" since we're only on a month-to-month lease yearly rent increases is super normalized here, especially in Massachusetts. friends in Boston have had their rents go up over $1K in one year. everyone says we've been lucky to go this long without an increase, (we just passed our 8 yr anniversary of moving in) but I know too much about my landlord's finances to believe that lmao
