1. We see something that's new or different, like someone who looks different, lives differently etc.
2. Evolutionary, we are inclined to be sceptic of new stuff. So initial reaction is fear or judgment, which leads to cruel behaviour.
3. In order to be kind, we have to shut down that "animal" instinct and have to think differently.
4. Empathy and compassion are higher states of being that a cruel person has not reached, because they never forced their animal brain to evolve past its first instinct.
5. Our society is supposedly a higher civilization, so we need to do force our animal brain to evolve past our instincts.
