@Oughtism@shin.mugicha.club @minimay@poa.st @newmodel@shin.mugicha.club being miserable vs being a miserable bastard is, i think, what's being illustrated right now. no one needs advice from miserable bastards, nor a definition of what your individual baseline should look like. yes, it's true you shouldn't kill yourself, but you should also aim to be content or happy.

@f0x@dsmc.space @minimay@poa.st @Oughtism@shin.mugicha.club @newmodel@shin.mugicha.club first off, understand I don't agree with the state of affairs I'm about to describe. I don't think it's good, it just is. but I don't think you have any idea what it's like to be a man. what the poasties are saying is blunt, but it's pretty much the only actionable advice under any emotional state bad enough to leak out. you remember that lesbian lady who cross-dressed as a man as a social experiment? because she passed she expected to find proof of how good men had it-- only she was traumatized by normal people's indifference and outright scorn for her suffering and "sensitivity"? a psychiatrist told her, flatly, to "stop crying" at an appointment, and what struck me is that she saw that as something to be shocked and upset about, rather than just a reasonable correction for losing one's composure. men have to get themselves under control first and foremost. yes, in a bad situation people should seek to better their lot, but it carries a greater risk for men. you can't let the world see things getting to you, let them see you "being a bitch." it's not just vanity. and yes, the point of those kinds of statements IS to induce misery. it's basically a punishment for losing control of oneself. men are expected to have a higher carrying capacity for stress. it's an evolutionary hygiene thing-- induce a selective pressure for that beneficial stoic behavior even when the environment doesn't provide the usual stressor.
